DETROIT -- A 40-year-old deputy with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department is facing drunk driving charges, Local 4 has learned.
The deputy was driving along Interstate 94 early Friday morning after leaving a bar when Michigan State Police said that he passed troopers at about 95 mph. Troopers followed the deputy's vehicle for a about one mile before making the stop.
A gun was found on the seat of the vehicle, which is against department policy, Local 4 reported.
Field sobriety and breath tests were administered at the scene, the station reported. The deputy allegedly recorded a .13 on the breathalyzer.
The deputy, who had been assigned to the Wayne County Jail, has turned in his gun and has been transferred. He is an 18-year veteran who could be arraigned within days.
Wayne County Deputy Chief Ralph Kinney said that the deputy could be fired if convicted, and will likely face disciplinary action.
