Testimony Continues Wednesday In Grant Trial

POSTED: Tuesday, December 11, 2007
UPDATED: 7:40 am EST December 12,2007

More testimony will continue in the Stephen Grant murder trial.

On Tuesday, Verena Dierkes, the Grant family's once-blond, but now brown-haired, au pair at the time Tara Grant was killed and mutilated, gave a tearful -- and at times explicit -- description of her relationship with Grant during the second day of testimony.

Who Is Verena Dierkes, The Grant Family Au Pair?

Last week, prosecutors alleged that Grant had sent Dierkes a text message shortly after he killed his wife, stating that he owes her a kiss.

On Tuesday, the 19-year-old German au pair testified that at first she wanted to protect Stephen. She also explicity described their sexual relationship.

Dierkes testified that on March 3, the day after Tara's death, Stephen called Dierkes in Germany and said, "Goodbye, I'm going to prison for the rest of my life. It was an accident."

Dierkes' testimony continued into Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier, Alicia Standerfer, sister of Tara Grant, testified for about 20 minutes, with questions centering primarily around her relationship with her sister.

Prosecution tried to paint the relationship as a loving one, while defense questioned Standerfer about an argument that she and Tara got into during Thanksgiving 2006.

The prosecution was attempting to characterize the relationship between the sisters as strained, seeing each other infrequently.

Tara and Stephen Grant's children are staying with Standerfer in Ohio, but Stephen's sister, Kelly Utykanski, has been in court to push for unsupervised visits.
