A Detroit man was charged with involuntary manslaughter Tuesday for allegedly leaving a child in harm's way.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said Warren Williams was charged because he knew his ex-girlfriend had a history of abusing their two-year-old daughter, but left the child with the woman anyway.
The ex-girlfriend, who was also the child's mother, is charged with felony murder in connection with the two-year-old girl's death.
The girl died last November. Police said the girl was beaten by her mother while in a room at the Packard Motel in Detroit.
The mother was identified as 32-year-old Nicole Holloway. According to police, Holloway told the hotel manager that she hit her child and that the police needed to be called.
When police arrived the girl was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Police said blunt force trauma was listed as the cause of death.
According to police, Holloway admitted hitting her daughter with her hands because she was angry with the child.
In the decision to charge Williams, prosecutors explained that he knew Holloway had an extensive history of abusing the girl and that Holloway had lost her parental rights.
