DETROIT -- The People Mover in downtown Detroit is back online Tuesday after three days of repairs.
The elevated train had been out of commission since Saturday and has had problems since Friday, Local 4 reported. People Mover management said that a power surge knocked the train out. It has also been plagued in recent months with computer problems.
Crews fixed two expansion joints at the Joe Louis Arena station. People Mover management blames the problems on the train being 15 years old. They are planning a $7 million upgrade, Local 4 reported.
The cars were parked in the Times Square Station as crews worked to get them back online.
Detroit Department of Transportation officials hoped to have the system up and running without problems for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals with the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena Tuesday night.
About 7,000 commuters use the People Mover daily. About 20,000 people could be expected to use it for Tuesday's hockey game, Local 4 reported.
Shuttle buses were available as an alternative transport for commuters.
