The Michigan State Police bomb squad was called to the scene of a bomb threat in Rochester Hills Wednesday afternoon.

A 50-year-old DaimlerChrysler employee was called into a meeting sometime after 1 p.m at the DaimlerChrysler customer call center about an internal investigation, Local 4 reported. The man announced that he had a tape recorder and a bomb in a briefcase he brought with him, before setting it down and leaving, the station reported. Colleagues told police the man does not usually carry a briefcase.

The man was taken into police custody after he left the building. He is a Detroit resident and 29-year Chrysler employee.

Approximately 190 employees were evacuated.

State police brought a bomb disposal unit to the scene. The package was X-rayed and determined not to be an explosive.

The meeting was reportedly about his past performance and he might have been facing disciplinary action, according to Local 4.

The building is located on Hamlin Road, not far from the company's Auburn Hills headquarters, and also includes other office tenants not related to the automaker.

Hamlin, between Adams and Crooks roads, was blocked off near the building during the investigation and reopened around 4 p.m.

The suspect remains in custody and is expected to face charges, accoring to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. Despite the fact that the briefcase did not contain an explosive, making a bomb threat is illegal, Bouchard said.
