Students will conduct solo performances for chance to win annual Schrock Interlochen Scholarship Competition
Students from three Detroit public schools are expected to compete for a $9,000 scholarship to the nationally renowned Interlochen Summer Music Camp.
The district says the 15 students from Cass Tech and Renaissance high schools and the Detroit School of Arts will conduct solo performances Wednesday afternoon on harp, oboe, violin, viola, cello and piano. Vocal performances also will be held.
The 22nd Annual Schrock Interlochen Scholarship Competition will be held in the auditorium at Spain Elementary-Middle School.
The camp for students in third through 12th grade runs from June 22 to Aug. 5. It attracts students, faculty and staff from across the United States and more than 40 other countries.
Interlochen is southwest of Traverse City in Grand Traverse County.
