15 schools in Detroit cancel class because of heat

Classes canceled for rest of the week at Education Achievement Authority schools

DETROIT - Classes at the Education Achievement Authority's 15 schools in Detroit are being canceled through the remainder of the week (Tuesday, July 16 through Friday, July 19) as a health and safety precaution in response to forecasts issued by the National Weather Service regarding heat and humidity in the city.

Classes are canceled for the following schools:  

Mary M. Bethune Elementary

Burns Elementary School

Law Academy

Nolan Elementary

Phoenix Academy

Brenda Scott Elementary

Murphy Elementary/Middle

Stewart Performance Academy

Trix Performance Academy

Central Collegiate Academy

Denby High School

Henry Ford High School

Mumford High School

Pershing High School

Southeastern High School. 

Classes are expected to resume on Monday, July 22. Parents were notified Monday of the closures directly by the schools.
