DETROIT -- Toilets that have a tendency to have high-pressure leaks are forcing a West Bloomfield homeowner to take action.
Judy Bess says that one of her high-priced, high-pressure Kohler toilets doesn't work, while the other identical toilet is a time bomb waiting to explode.
In mid-May, the toilet in her main bathroom refused to flush and hasn't worked since.
Bess is worried the identical toilet in her other bathroom will be the next to go.
"It's a scary thing. It's like a time bomb ticking away with that toilet," Bess said.
When Bess contacted Kohler, she was told the company no longer makes the toilet or replacement parts.
Kohler initially offered her $300 per toilet, but new non-pressurized models retail for at least $600.
After hearing about the troubled toilets, Ruth To The Rescue contacted Kohler about Bess' problem. As a result, the company said Tuesday that it will give her two new Kohler units free of charge.
The Kohler pressure toilet in question is model number 81100.
The company told Local 4 that it stopped making the high-pressure toilets in 1995, after receiving several complaints from consumers.
An Internet search conducted by Ruth to the Rescue uncovered a host of consumers who have had bad experiences with the company's toilets.
