DETROIT -- Veteran Detroit automotive journalist Frank Washington Jr. is recovering from surgery at Detroit's Sinai-Grace Hospital after he was so severely beaten on Friday that every bone in his face was crushed.
Police said that Washington, 60, was stabbed and beaten during his routine morning walk near Ward Street and McNichols Road on Detroit's west side.
Washington's family said they do not know why anyone would do this.
"I'm sure he wasn't bothering anything," said daughter Michelle Washington. "He wasn't the type of guy to have anything like this. So, I don't know why. Just anger, at this point."
Washington is expected to make a full recovery.
Police are still looking for the attacker.
