STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. -- The owner of a Sterling Heights Big Boy restaurant has been hit twice by copper and brass thieves.
First, Chuck Darany discovered thieves had stolen a brass flower vase from the gravesite of his grandparents at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit.
Then, Chuck Darany returned to his office at the Big Boy in Sterling Heights to find thieves had stolen the restaurant's entire sprinkler system.
The scrap thieves took cut everything off right from the outside wall of the restaurant.
It was an expensive 20-zone commercial system with back flow preventers and other valves.
Darany said he is not sure if he will replace the system because it may be stolen again, and he is upset with the people buying the scrap metal from robbers.
Police told Darany it will cost $300 to fix the gravestone at Woodlawn, and the thieves will probably only get $5 to $10 in scrap for it.
Meanwhile the cemetery's management team has said it will replace the vase.
