Saggy Pants To Become Illegal?

UPDATED: 8:13 pm EST February 7, 2008

Auburn Hills city council members are discussing whether to make it illegal to wear saggy pants.

Councilman Otis Newkirk told the Oakland Press he was appalled by the dress of teens and children while attending a movie at Great Lakes Crossing with his wife and grandchildren. "It's got to stop," Newkirk said. "I don't like seeing those kids exposing their undergarments and skin."

Many communities across the nation have already put ordinances in place to allow police to issue tickets for baggy pants

The American Civil Liberties Union and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People are both involved with many of those cases, citing racial profiling.

Council members said they will have to look at the issue further, and agreed some type of action by the city was needed.
