DETROIT -- Detroit Police announced the arrest of a teen wanted in connection to a fatal shooting on Feb.2 at a Detroit dry cleaner on James Couzens Road.
Police said Edward Michael Jackson, 17, and an accomplice entered Gino's Discount Cleaner around 2:30 p.m. and attempted to steal a woman's purse.
Police said Jackson shot the woman's 58-year-old husband when he came to her aid and fled on foot.
Jackson's accomplice remains at large.
"When a teen pulls a weapon and guns down someone so senselessly, it makes you pause and wonder how many people failed in this young mans life," said Police Chief Ella M. Bully-Cummings.
The homicide investigation revealed Jackson and his accomplice committed at least three additional robberies and attempted robberies in the days surrounding the slaying.
Police said they believe Jackson and his accomplice entered Subway on Friday and pretended to hold up a customer, who police said they believe was an accomplice, so that the clerk would allow them to get near the cash register.
When the clerk refused, one of the men fired shots at the ceiling, and they both fled the scene, said police.
Nobody was injured.
Police said the same .45-caliber pistol casing was found at the Subway holdup and the dry cleaners.
Officers assigned to the Western District arrested Jackson after a composite sketch was released.
Jackson was arraigned on homicide charges Thursday afternoon.
Anyone who has information on the unknown accomplice or the case asked to call Detroit Homicide at 313-596-2200 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
