DEARBORN, Mich. -- Several former La Shish employees finally got their final paycheck, five days after the restaurant chain announced it closed.
Nearly 300 employees have been lining up day after day at the company's headquarters on Rotunda Road in Dearborn to get their final pay check, only to leave disappointed, and now they can move on with their lives, said an employee.
"We spent two days going back and forth to get our checks, and they gave us a hard time about it," said former La Shish employee Saad Shouman.
Employees said they found out the restaurant was shutting by a letter posted on restaurant doors.
"It was so sad for the people, everybody has family, they have mortgage payments," said Shouman.
SoundOff: What Are Your La Shish Memories? The closures were blamed on bad publicity and a 50 percent drop in revenue since Chahine's homes and businesses were raided in 2005.
Chahine is charged with five counts of tax evasion and is believed to be in Lebanon.
He has been charged with skimming more than $20 million in cash from his restaurants.
