DETROIT -- A group calling themselves the Women of Detroit held a rally Wednesday in support of Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. The Detroit women said they were gathering to promote what they said was the good the mayor has done for city neighborhoods. They said that because the mayor was elected by the citizens of Detroit and he has vowed to not quit on the city, they want to show they will not quit on the mayor.
Although the media was alerted to the women's gathering by the mayor's office, a spokesperson for the mayor said the office had nothing to do with organizing it.Another public rally in support of the mayor is scheduled for Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Shrine Of The Black Madonna on Linwood Street.
