M-14 Reopens After Crane Accident

POSTED: 1:32 pm EDT March 27, 2008
UPDATED: 7:52 am EDT March 28, 2008

M-14 in both directions near Gotfredson Road in Washtenaw County are back open after a construction crane accident on Thursday.

The crane was on top of the bridge preparing for bridge construction work when it fell through the overpass around 1 p.m. It did not fall all the way through to the road beneath it. It was caught on the metal bar that keeps the bridge in place.

Debris was scattered across M-14.

There were no injuries.

Traffic had to use the off-ramps and on-ramps to get around the closure.

MDOT is investigating the crash. Officials said that the Department of Transportation had planned to shut the freeway west of Plymouth this weekend and demolish the overpass.

The project is expected to last until September.
