1928: Singer-actor Eddie Fisher, the most successful pop singles artist of the first half of the 1950s, is born in Philadelphia, Pa. Fisher's No. 1 hits included "Wish You Were Here," "I'm Walking Behind You," "Oh! My Pa-Pa" and "I Need You Now." He was also the father of actresses Carrie Fisher (with Debbie Reynolds) and Joely Fisher (with Connie Stevens).
