DETROIT -- Detroit has awarded a contract to demolish the old Tiger Stadium to a joint venture of MCM Management Corp. of Bloomfield Hills and The Farrow Group of Detroit.

That means the clock is ticking for those who would like to preserve some of the Detroit history remaining Michigan Avenue and Trumbull Street – once affectionately known as "The Corner."

The Old Tiger Stadium Conservancy, a nonprofit group, must come up with about $15 million by June 1 to preserve a portion of the old park – one corner – to be converted into a community center and museum.

If not, the whole stadium could be demolished within a month.
