Toddler dies from blunt-force trauma to chest, officials say

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – Two people have been charged in the death of a 16-month-old girl who was killed Tuesday in the 2600 block of Commor Avenue in Hamtramck.

Medical officials said Amiena Markham died from blunt-force trauma to the chest.

Christopher Scott Olinger, 23, and the child's mother, Asia Markham, 27, are charged with first-degree murder and first-degree child abuse. They are expected to be arraigned at 11 a.m. Saturday in Romulus.

Police said they were called to the home at 11:32 a.m. Tuesday and found Asia Markham outside holding her daughter, who was unresponsive. Officials took Amiena to a nearby facility, where she was pronounced dead.
