OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. -- There could soon be a new sheriff in town.
Jane Boudreau declared her candidacy and is now the first woman ever to run for sheriff in Oakland County.
The mom of three says law enforcement runs in her family.
Her husband is a sheriff’s department helicopter pilot.
In every branch of her family tree, there is someone who wears blue or brown.
And she has been a deputy for more than 20 years.
Boudreau told Local 4, “I was a command officer at the Sheriffs Office. I’ve worked patrol services, corrective services, I’ve worked in the marine division. I’ve seen the inception of the aviation unit from the ground up, because of my husband.”
Boudreau said she says the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department needs new leadership at the top.
“I am going to work cooperatively with law enforcement agencies. I’m going to stop the battle with the state police. I have a very good relationship with the state troopers through my DARE experience.”
Boudreau will run against her former boss and longtime sheriff, Michael Bouchard.
She is involved in a federal lawsuit against Bouchard, but said her candidacy has nothing to do with the lawsuit.
Bouchard has been the sheriff in Oakland County since 1999.
