ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- An Ann Arbor company, Ilium Software, has come up with a solution -- the eWallet -- that helps you remember all of your passwords and keep them secure.Between your home, your work and everywhere in between, life is increasingly filled with gadgets. And each gadget is often filled with password-protected software. Keeping the passwords straight is often an impossible task even for those with the greatest of memories. The eWallet, the company says, keeps it all straight.
"It lets you keep track of all of your most important information in a way that's completely secure," said Marc Tassin, senior product manager at Ilium Software."And the best part about it is it lets you keep track of it and have it with you at all times."The software can be downloaded on your handheld device. You can create virtual credit cards that look like the real thing and divide them into "home" and "work" categories."The core of it, the most important thing for our customers, is for them to be able to say, 'I'm never going to forget another password,'" Tassin said."After that, the next most important thing is for them is to be able to say, 'I'll never forget another password and it will always be safe.'"The eWallet uses 256-bit encryption, the same level of security the government uses. It's nearly impossible to crack."In order to break into this, for example, it's estimated it would take every computer in the world networked together, and then tens of thousands of years," Tassin said. The eWallet is currently available for the Windows, Windows Mobile and Palm operating systems. It should be available in the next few weeks for the iPhone and Blackberry devices.
