1935: Film director William Friedkin, best known for the movies "The French Connection" and "The Exorcist," is born in Chicago, Ill. He earned Best Director Oscar nominations for both movies, winning for "The French Connection" in 1972. He's also directed such movies as "Sorcerer," "Cruising," "To Live and Die in L.A.," "Blue Chips," "Jade" and "The Hunted."
