1920: Jazz saxophonist and composer Charlie Parker, also known by his nicknames of "Yardbird" and "Bird," is born in Kansas City, Kan. Parker was a highly influential jazz soloist and a leading figure in the development of bebop. Some of his best known songs include "Billie's Bounce," "Ornithology" and "Yardbird Suite."
