Father, Son Arrested On Marijuana Charges

POSTED: Friday, May 16, 2008
UPDATED: 11:35 am EDT May 18, 2008

An Orion Township father and son were arrested and charged with growing and selling large quantities of marijuana out of their home.

Oakland County's Narcotic Enforcement Team (NET) began investigating the duo after they received a tip.

Police said integral to this case was the use of the Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) cameras. A camera was placed on an aviation unit and monitored the heat coming from the Miller home. Police said the intense heat being generated inside is the kind of heat needed to grow marijuana.

After two months of surveillance, officers executed a search warrant of the home on the 4300 block of Rose Court and confiscated 204 marijuana plants, 17 pounds of marijuana, 35 Lidoderm patches, 100 methadone tablets, 100 Percocet tablets, two digital scales, grow lights, transformers, fertilizers, numerous High Times magazines, laptop computers and almost $5,000 in cash.

James Miller, 59, and Jason Miller, 21, were arraigned at the 52-3 District Court on multiple selling, manufacturing and conspiracy drug charges.

Bond for both was set at $25,000 or 10 percent cash. They will be back in court on May 22.

“This case is a disappointing head shaker,” said Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard. “To condone not only the use, but the manufacture and sale of drugs in a family operation is downright shameful.”
