LIVONIA, Mich. -- The 16-year-old Livonia driver who killed a young father in May while driving intoxicated has reached a plea deal with prosecutors and has been sentenced to five to fifteen years in prison.
Daniel Andreassi pleaded no contest to manslaughter and driving while intoxicated after the May 18 crash that killed 20-year-old Anthony Cosenza.
In the plea deal, a second degree murder charge was dropped.
Cosenza was pronounced dead at the scene after police said Andreassi sideswiped his car while he was pulling out of the 1 Under Bar and Grill on 5 Mile Road around 12:30 a.m. where he worked.
His fiancée, Amy Adams, 20, of Westland, was in Cosenza's Mercury Sable and was taken to the hospital. She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Andreassi is a Stevenson High School student. In May, 45 seniors were suspended for wearing class T-shirts that promote drinking and driving. It is now known whether or not Andreassi was one of those students.
Cosenza and Adams planned on getting married in October. They have a 3-month-old boy and care for a 1-year-old boy. His co-workers said he was a great guy and worked hard to support his family.
A red cross with flowers is now hanging as a memorial outside of the entrance to the 1 Under Bar and Grill.
