Plumber Convicted In Macomb County Slaying

POSTED: Monday, June 9, 2008
UPDATED: 1:04 pm EDT June 9, 2008

A self-employed plumber accused of abducting and killing a woman in Macomb County before dumping the body in an Oakland County lake has been convicted of first-degree murder.

David Wright of Richmond testified during his trial in Macomb County Circuit Court that he lied when he confessed to killing 50-year-old Marilou Johnson at her gated estate in Washington Township.

A jury on Monday also convicted him of kidnapping and larceny.

The 38-year-old faces a mandatory term of life in prison without parole when sentenced.

Wright was at Johnson's boyfriend's 6,500 square foot estate, about 25 miles north of Detroit on June 14 to give her an estimate for plumbing work, said Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel.

Authorities say the mother of three was fatally stabbed and her body was wrapped in a blanket, weighted down and dumped in the Cass Lake.
