DETROIT -- A Detroit family is homeless after a fire in an abandoned house Monday spread and demolished their home.
"How can I not be angry? I lost everything. I could have lost a daughter," said fire victim Lara Brady.
Brady's 16-year-old daughter was in the home sleeping when the fire broke out. Firefighters scaled the two-story home and rescued her. She was not injured.
Brady prophetically begged the city to tear down the abandoned home on 2605 Harrison Street, which is just six feet away from hers, because she feared it was a fire hazard to her and her children.
A single mother of three, Brady said she is desperate. "What am I supposed to do? There's stuff in there that can't be replaced. I finally got something nice after many years and now it's gone."
The Red Cross will help the family. However, Brady does not have renter's insurance.
