1959: Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg, who spent the majority of his 16-year career with the Chicago Cubs, is born in Spokane, Wash. The 10-time All-Star and nine-time Gold Glove winner won the 1984 National League MVP award and his career .989 fielding percentage is a major-league record at second base.
