FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- Farmington Hills is considering annexing land in the area of Greening Street between 12 and 13 Mile roads, just east of Orchard Lake Road.A consultant for the new construction envisions an expanded central business district, with plenty of open areas for pedestrians to walk and shop. But residents in the area said the new construction would affect 75 to 100 homes and would essentially make their neighborhood disappear.
The consultant also said that plans would not be rendered unless all of the residential areas agreed-- in order to avoid any isolation.Final plans for what would replace the area are far from being finalized, but residents are voicing their concerns over what is being called "new urbanism.""The minute they draw a box around my neighborhood, my house becomes unsellable to other home buyers," said resident Chuck Cozier. "My market goes from thousands of potential home buyers down to maybe 10 developers.""We did not plan on being forced out of our home," said Ann Wiersma-Ashay. "Everybody who lives around here knows each other. We do things together; kids play together. It's just a very nice neighborhood."The city declined an interview, but officials took questions at a public meeting Thursday from concerned residents. There is no word on when a vote will be held.
