PONTIAC, Mich. -- An 18-year-old suspected of killing a 6-year-old girl and striking her mother in a hit-and-run crash Monday was charged with second-degree murder.Randy Lee Sackrider Jr. of Auburn Hills was already on probation for joyriding and drunken driving charges when he was arraigned Thursday at the 50th District Court in Pontiac. He was charged with second-degree murder, which carries a life sentence in prison, and eight other felonies, prosecutors said.
Sackrider was also charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death, driving without a license causing death, and operating while intoxicated causing death - all potential 15-year felonies. He also charged with receiving and concealing stolen property.Police said Sackrider struck 27-year-old Sakeena Allen of Waterford and her child Tabi Allen while they were getting into a parked car on Kimball Street, near Grandie Street.Sakeena Allen sustained visible injuries to her face, but Tabi Allen died of her injuries at an area hospital. After hitting Sakeena and Tabi Allen, Sackrider fled the area.Meanwhile, Kyle Hayes, a laid-off officer, and an on-duty officer were having breakfast nearby when they heard the incident reported on the police radio.Hayes jumped in his own vehicle to assist the Pontiac police and spotted Sackrider's truck on Jocelyn Road. Police said Hayes chased the truck until Sackrider got out and began running. Hayes grabbed Sackrider by the shirt, but he was able to get away.By then, Pontiac police arrived and Hayes and the officers found Sackrider hiding in a Dumpster.Hayes, a nine-year police veteran, was laid-off from the ever-shrinking Pontiac Police Department in January due to deep budget cuts.He said he would love to be back on the police force, but he did what he did because he heard a little girl was hurt.Investigators said the 2006 Ford Stake truck Sackrider was driving was stolen the night before from a Walled Lake Lawn service company.Prosecutors denied Sackrider bond because of his extensive juvenile record, which includes charges of receiving and concealing stolen property, minor in possession of alcohol/ tobacco, driving without a license, home invasion and multiple violations of court orders.
