POSTED: Sunday, July 6, 2008
UPDATED: 7:08 pm EDT July 6, 2008

An attempted armed robbery in Auburn Hills on Saturday has left one man dead and another facing charges.

Auburn Hills police said they received a 911 call regarding an attempted robbery in the parking lot of the Salvation Army on Opdyke Road around 8:54 p.m.

When police arrived they said a confrontation erupted between one of the suspected robbers and an officer.

The suspect, a 30-year-old Pontiac man, was fatally shot by the officer.

Police said a second suspect, a 21-year-old man who is also from Pontiac, fled the scene on foot and carjacked an individual at the head of the Clinton River Trail near Opdyke and Hempstead Roads.

Police said they apprehended the 21-year-old suspect shortly after with the help of the Oakland County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit.

Police said the victims of the robbery and the victim of the carjacking were not injured.

The officer involved in the shooting is on paid leave until the investigation is complete.
