DETROIT -- A bird is not to blame for the Northwest plane damage during flight 478 from Detroit to Tampa on Sunday.
A Tampa Airport spokeswoman had orginally stated they believed it was a bird that damaged the nose cone of the airplane.
The Federal Aviation Authority said the crew reported hearing a bang while flying at 18,000 feet, which is too high for a bird.
Ground crews in Tampa noticed the damage.
Northwest said all 182 passengers and crew space members onboard were not injured.
The plane’s outbound flight was delayed while crews investigate.
