POSTED: Monday, July 7, 2008
UPDATED: 2:40 pm EDT July 8, 2008

A 9-year-old boy pulled out of a Macomb County pond Monday has died, according to police.

The Nicholas Cain Gurzick was playing with his 11-year-old brother in a pond near their grandparent's home in Ray Township when he got stuck in thick mud.

Authorities said dive teams struggled to pull him out of 11-foot waters to find him unresponsive.

The boy was transported to Henry Ford Hospital in Clinton Township, where he was later pronounced dead.
