DETROIT, Mich. -- Residents living in a Northwest Detroit neighborhood say crime is on the rise so much, they are arming themselves for protection.
Some feel police aren't doing enough to address the violence, so they're taking matters into their own hands in the Castle Rouge neighborhood.
Residents say in the past few months their quiet community has seen a rash of break-ins and shootings.
Last week a man was killed and an 8 year old girl injured in a drive by shooting at Virgil and Schoolcraft.
In May, someone was shot during a party on the 12000 block of Riverdale.
On April 24, three burglars terrorized a family at their home about a block away from Riverdale on Plymouth Road, and in June, a man shot and killed an intruder breaking into his house.
Several people living in the area are in the process of getting gun permits, and learning how to shoot at gun ranges.
They do say they have seen an increase in police patrols since complaining to officers.
