PONTIAC, Mich. -- Police said they arrested Dominique Trevon Mayes, 17, over the weekend when they spotted him driving a stolen car in Lake Orion.
He was taken into custody at the Oakland County Jail and charged with seven felony counts, including rape, carjacking and home invasion.
Police said Mayes is the key suspect in a recent string of break-ins, one involving a sexual assault.
Police said they believe Mayes broke into a home on Pontiac's north side last Saturday, armed with a gun and a knife. Mayes is accused of duct-taping the homeowner, a woman in her 50s, and sexually assaulting her.
The victim told police Mayes repeatedly threatened to kill her.
He is suspected of stealing $100 and her 1998 pewter-colored Kia Sephia, which was later found.
Just a short distance away from the victim's home, police found another stolen vehicle, which was taken from a previous home invasion on Foster Street, where a man and a woman were bound with duct tape and robbed at gunpoint.
Authorities said they believe Mayes was involved in the first break-in, but he had an accomplice.
Mayes has been arrested as a minor and has previous burglary, stealing, fleeing and eluding charges against him.
He is originally from Flint but was a ward of the state and lived in the area.
Before Mayes' arrest, police put the community of Pontiac on alert for his presence. "Be aware of your surroundings when you come out your house. Make sure to lock your doors at night, because you never know who's watching," said Pontiac Detective Paul McDougal.
Mayes was spotted in Pontiac last Thursday afternoon driving a stolen car. Police chased him, but they said he ditched the stolen car and was able to escape.
