Mother Accused Of Drunken Driving Sentenced

POSTED: Thursday, July 24, 2008
UPDATED: 6:23 pm EDT August 25, 2008

A Taylor woman who was arrested June 23 after police said she was found drunk and slumped over the steering wheel of her car with a toddler in the back seat will spend about 200 days in jail and faces two years of probation.

Marlene Chapman, 36, was sentenced Monday after being charged with child endangerment, drunken driving third offense and driving on a revoked license.

Chapman waived her right to a pre-trial last month

A concerned citizen called police Wednesday around 8 p.m. when she saw Chapman visibly drunk inside of Lowes in Bloomfield Township and then get into a car with a toddler in the back seat.

Police said Chapman had a blood-alcohol level of .29, more than three times the .08 intoxication level. Also, she left her 2-year-old son in the car alone, in 80-degree weather.

Chapman was arraigned in 48th District Court and held in an Oakland County jail on a $25,000 bond.
