16-year-old boy drowns in Southfield pool

Boy pulled from pool at Sutton Place Apartments

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A 16-year-old boy drowned Monday in a pool at the Sutton Place Apartments near 9 Mile and Lahser roads in Southfield.

The boy and his friend were swimming in the community pool at the apartment complex. At 3:30 p.m. Monday, about 30 people were at the pool when someone yelled there was a person at the bottom of the pool.

The boy was pulled from the pool.

At least three signs state there are no lifeguards on duty at the pool. However, staff at the clubhouse performed CPR on the boy.

Police and EMS arrived and he was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
