HAZEL PARK, Mich. -- A Hazel Park woman is accused of leaving her 8-month-old daughter strapped in a car seat while she was shopping at a local Kroger.
Elizabeth Rogers, 21, was arrested Sunday when concerned shoppers noticed the baby unattended in the back of a Monte Carlo parked in front of the grocery store.
Police said the windows were down and the car was unlocked.
Witnesses told police they were worried the baby would suffer from the heat, or possibly be kidnapped, so they called police.
Police said they retrieved the baby and waited nearly a half-hour before Rogers exited the grocery store with another 2-year-old daughter.
When police confronted Rogers, a small crowd gathered and began verbally accusing Rogers of poor parenting. Police said they had to restrain Rogers when she started verbally attacking people in the crowd.
The children were given over to Rogers’ husband.
Police said the baby was unharmed.
Rogers will be arraigned Monday in Hazel Park’s 43rd District Court.
The entire incident was captured on the store's surveillance cameras.
