Bodies Of Father, Son Found In Toledo Waters

POSTED: Wednesday, July 30, 2008
UPDATED: 9:53 am EDT July 31, 2008

Dive teams searching the waters of Maumee Bay in Ohio, found the bodies of a missing 12-year-old and his father after they disappeared while fishing Monday night.

Search crews have been searching the waters off Cullen Park for 33-year-old Shondale Galloway and his 12-year-old son Shondale Galloway Jr.

Police told Local 4 the boy's body was found around 11a.m. Wednesday entangled in fishing line. Galloway was found around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Foul play was not suspected and investigators said they feared the man and his son drowned. The Toledo Fire Chief said Tuesday the area is common for drowning because there is a high sandbar and many people fish there. Often people don't see where the sandbar ends and the deep waters begin.

The chief speculated that one person probably started drowning and the other drowned trying to save him.

Searchers used side-scan sonar to help locate the two.

Shonadale Galloway's wife, Maquitia Galloway, notified the authorities around 11 p.m. Monday when she returned to the campsite and found their 3- and 5-year-old children crying in a tent and her husband and their 12-year-old son were missing.

"When I first looked in, it felt kind of funny, but I didn't know what," said Maquitia Galloway.

Maquitia and Shondale Galloway have been married for 14 years and have eight children together.

"I know what he's going through and I just pray," said Maquitia Galloway.
