DETROIT -- The Coleman A. Young Municipal Building is going green—literally. Green plant life has been installed on the 25-year-old roof, which was in need of restoration.
The building engineer said the project will save taxpayers more than $1 million in maintenance to the building and will save on utilities because it will keep the roof warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
Bright Roofing and Restoration crews began installing the green roof panels Thursday.
