Sports Memorabilia, Jewelry Stolen

POSTED: 4:14 p.m. EDT October 16, 2002
UPDATED: 4:16 p.m. EDT October 16, 2002

Two local teenagers are facing serious charges after being accused of trashing a $1.4 million home in Farmington Hills.

The teens reportedly looted, gutted and set the house on fire after a party last May.

A 17-year-old from Farmington Hills is facing arson charges, while a Northville 16-year-old is charged with receiving stolen property. The investigation into the theft of property at the home included pricey sports memorabilia and expensive jewelry.

Police Chief William Dwyer said that the party got wild when the 15-year-old who lives at the house left to meet his parents at a cottage.

Dwyer said that 15-year-old left two friends alone in the home and they called some 100 people to come to the Oakland County house.

"There was some heavy drinking going on and drug use in the home. The party obviously got out of control," Dwyer said.

Dwyer said that the partygoers ransacked the house and that someone started a fire, which destroyed the home's joists and left severe smoke damage.
