HOWELL, Mich. -- Hollywood is coming to the Livingston County.
The Howell Public Schools Board of Education voted Monday to lease the shuttered Parker High School to Parallel Media of Studio City, Calif., which plans to film a movie called "High School" there.
Parker was built after voters approved a 2003 bond issue but closed because of a lack of funding.
Film producers said they hope the film will star William H. Macy as the principal.
The company will pay the district $15,000 per week for what's expected to be at least 12 weeks of filming. The deal also calls for the district to supply custodial, maintenance and food services while Parallel Media will provide learning opportunities for Howell students.
Filming of the movie, budgeted at $9.5 million, could begin in late October.
According to Parellel Media, about 100 crew members are expected to stay in local hotels, dine in restaurants and shop in downtown Howell, putting an estimated $6.5 million into Howell area businesses.
Producers described "High School" as a PG-13 film about an overachieving student with plans for Harvard who is talked into smoking marijuana on the day before his graduation and how it ruins his life.
