ROYAL OAK, Mich. -- Royal Oak Police opened their doors Wednesday to give the public a chance to reclaim items that were recovered in a drug raid on a house in August.
More than 1,000 pieces of stolen property ranging from fine jewelry to electronics were found along with 130 marijuana plants at a house on W. 12 Mile Road.
"I'd like to have two wedding rings back," said Ruth Unholz. "With my dad's and my husband's wedding ring that's all I have left of them."
The items were found after police raided the house after reports of an attempted kidnapping on the same street.
The owner of the house, Yakov Vyacheslavov Rakhamimov, 23, was charged with delivery and manufacture of marijuana, felony possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and malicious destruction of property.
Rakhamimov is one of three suspects arrested on Crooks Road and Washington Boulevard in Royal Oak in August after residents reported a gunman chasing two men through the streets. Police said Rakhamimov and two other men in a car tried kidnapping the two victims.
No charges have been issued against the two other suspects. A man and a juvenile were arrested, however, the juvenile was released.
Investigation into Rakhamimov’s house on the 200 block of W. 12 Mile Road, found a marijuana-grow operation worth $175,000, stolen police property, other stolen items and a plethora of guns.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be sought.
Police said they believe the property was stolen during multiple home invasions and car larcenies, and police are trying to locate the property owners.
"I hope my appointment book is here," said Frank Hobrecht, who said it was stolen from his car.
Christopher Prevost showed up at the Royal Oak Police Department looking for things taken from his girlfriend's car. "She felt very violated that somebody was able to go into her car and take her stuff."
Over 50 people reviewed the evidence Wednesday.
"I found a couple of my (collectable) coins," said Yvonne Lehue. "I was hoping to find other items, but at least my curiosity is satisfied."
Unholz, on the other hand, left empty handed, "the rings are what I was looking for and nothing matches."
A second open house will be held Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Police said some of the stolen items may have come people in Bloomfield Hills and Novi. People should bring a copy of their police report or other paper work such as a sales receipt.
