EASTPOINTE, Mich. -- Police are looking for a group of teens that are believed to have ransacked at least two Eastpointe homes Thursday afternoon.
Police said the break-ins occurred when the homeowners left to run quick errands and were gone for less than half an hour.
One victim said she even saw three teenagers hanging around outside her home before she left.
Veronica Klinefelt said she was rushing out of her home to get her son to school when she realized the front door was wide open.
She told her son to go back in and shut the door, but he did not lock it.
Klinefelt said she was angry at herself, "I didn't ask my son, 'Did you lock the door?'" she said.
"I am just a little angry at myself because I had a gut reaction that there was something wrong and I ignored it," she said.
Police said the teens robbed another home down the street during that half-hour time period. The other home was locked, but somehow the teens were able to enter, police said.
Laptops, rare coins and small valuables were stolen from the homes.
A witness told police the teens were on bicycles and one teen had a blue Nike backpack on.
