DETROIT -- A man was shot and robbed of $1,700 on the same day he lost his job, according to police.
“I’m just so glad to be alive,” said Brad Mannie.
Mannie was cashing his last paycheck Friday night at a CVS store at Telegraph Road and Grand River Avenue in Detroit with his 12-year-old son, D’Vonte.
When they returned to their car, police said a man was hiding in the back. The man took Mannie’s money and shot him.
Mannie was shot in the hip. He was released Saturday but doctors told him he has a long recovery ahead.
“Everything we had … I don’t know what to do,” said Mannie.
The home Mannie and his family rented has gone into foreclosure and the family is preparing to move out.
Mannie’s son said he’s learned a lesson, “Do good in school so you ain’t got to deal with this stuff no more,” he said.
Police said they found the gun used in the shooting inside a house in Redford Township but did not find the man responsible.
Four people were taken into custody from the house where the gun was found, but no arrests have been made.
“If anyone out there knows anything, my wallet or what’s going on, just be truthful and honest,” said Mannie.
Mannie described his shooter’s car as a dark blue Cadillac.
