ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- A man impersonating a police officer is in custody after he made a poor choice in choosing who he tried to fool when he attempted to pull over two real officers in an unmarked car.
Ann Arbor police said a man in a white SUV pulled up behind the unmarked car at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday and turned on blue flashing lights and a siren.
Police said the impersonator pulled up next to the officers, saw their badges through the windows and realized what he had done. He pulled over immediately.
Police said no badge was found on the 24-year-old man from Shelby Township and he was arrested on the spot.
“Well when he pulled up next to our officers, and they were in an unmarked car in full uniform, and saw that he was actually stopping real police officers, his exact words I can’t really say on camera but there was ‘oh’ and then an expletive,” explained Sgt. Edd Spuck of the Ann Arbor police.
Police said the man told them he was just having fun. He has been arraigned on two misdemeanor charges including impersonating a police officer. His bond was set at $10,000. His pretrial date is set for Nov. 13.
Police said the man was not intoxicated.
Flashing lights and sirens on personal cars are not illegal to have, but illegal to use.
