FRASER, Mich. -- The Fraser Public Library will let people pay off their late fees on books with food.
Library officials said they are trying to get their books back, but also help people in need.
The project, Food for Fines, began on Nov. 1. It allows people with late fees to donate a can of food in exchange for having 50 cents waived from their library fees.
Up to $5 can be waived.
It is expected to last until Saturday.
There are similar projects in place across the United States.
