FREEDOM TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- A Freedom Township man was sitting in his home Saturday when he was hit in the back with portions of a shotgun round.
Michigan State Police said Carl Curtis was working on his computer in his second floor office when the bullets flew through his window.
Curtis was taken to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor where he was treated for injuries to the left side of his back and is expected to be OK.
Police said they believe the shots could have come from someone who was hunting in the area, because Curtis lives in a remote wooded area surrounded by farm land.
"It's deer hunting season and we understand that a lot of guys and gals are out in the woods hunting, no problems with that, we just want them to be mindful of being near residences," said Michigan State Trooper Jim Smiley. "When they discharge that firearm that rounds gotta go somewhere and if it doesn't hit their target it could hit a home, a kid or in this situation an adult sitting in their house on a Saturday morning just minding their own business."
Smiley said they are looking for information from anyone who was hunting Saturday morning in the area east of Kothe Road south of Pleasant Lake Road. Or, west of Esch Road and north of Bethel Church Road.
Smiley said discussions would have to be conducted with the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office to determine if any charges would be brought against anyone found to be responsible for the shooting.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the state police's Ypsilanti Post, 734-482-1211.
