DETROIT, Mich. -- A family of five was rushed to Detroit’s Children’s Hospital Tuesday night with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.
One of the children, a 3-year-old, died.
Detroit EMS were called to a home on Detroit’s West Side Tuesday night.
Neighbors heard the sirens and told Local 4 they couldn’t believe what they saw.
"They were in there for a few minutes, and then they brought a baby out and he was limp," said one neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous. "He looked lifeless. There were no life signs that I could see."
The other children, 5, 8, and 12 years old, and their mother, were all taken to the hospital for treatment and are expected to recover.
Sources told Local 4 there was a faulty furnace in the home that may have been leaking for days.
The Detroit Fire Department called out their hazardous materials unit and brought testing equipment into the home to check for carbon monoxide levels.
If you get any symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, like nausea, headaches or dizziness, you should leave your home immediately and call the utility company for an inspection.
