DETROIT -- Icy roads and light snow Wednesday caused multiple car crashes and freeway closures in metro Detroit Wednesday.
As rush hour approached, Local 4 Traffic Reporter Heather Zara said almost every freeway was backed up.
A police cruiser was involved in a crash on Interstate 75 that sent two motorists to area hospitals.
Police said a woman driving a Pontiac Grand AM lost control on the southbound lanes of I-75 and Opdyke Road and crashed into a police cruiser that was assisting a tow truck to pull a car out of a ditch.
The driver of the Grand AM hit the tow truck driver, and both were injured.
Police said the woman is in stable condition. There is no update on the tow truck driver's condition.
Two crashes on I-696 westbound near Woodward Avenue and Southfield Road forced speeds to 11 mph.
