Fountain Of Youth Found In Radio Waves

Radio Waves Help In Fight Against Aging

POSTED: 8:12 p.m. EST December 26, 2002
UPDATED: 8:23 p.m. EST December 26, 2002

A new procedure is being used to safely smooth skin and slow down the aging process.

Dr. Leslie Baumann of the University of Miami is performing a new procedure that uses radio waves and a saline solution to peel away damaged skin.

"These are the same waves that go into your car radio and play music. The waves run through saline and cause the saline to vibrate and that's what makes the cell vibrant," Baumann said.

According to Baumann, the radio wave treatment is not only safer, but requires less recovery time and costs less than the other procedures available.

"It's safer than laser because you don't have heat. It's safer than dermabrasion because you don't go as deeply in the skin. However, the results aren't quite as good as those procedures because you don't go as deep," Baumann said.

The procedure will stimulate the body's natural production of collagen and, Baumann said, the results will improve with time.
